Screenplay or novel?

I wrote a few chapters of the book this summer.
But then I got sidetracked, and last week stayed up all night feverishly banging out the first act of a screenplay version of “Durango Tango.”
I’m not sure why, but the screenplay format broke through a minor case of writer’s block. It got my mind moving in a different direction.
Will a screenplay be an easier sell than a novel? Movies are certainly a good market — much of the stuff coming out of Hollywood the last few years has been regurgitated stories from the past. Surely the American viewing audience hungers for fresh characters, fresh scenery, fresh plots.
